Lightweight Champion of the World Katie Taylor paid a very special visit to CHI at Temple Street today where she was announced as an official ambassador for the hospital.

The boxing legend pledged her support for Temple Street and celebrated her new role as ambassador for the beloved children’s hospital by dropping into some of the wards with her five title belts and meeting the little patients, doctors and nurses, to their great surprise and delight.

Katie is no stranger to Temple Street, having paid a very special festive visit to the children in the wards last Christmas Week. She has also previously lent her support to a charity fundraiser and auction that raised vital funds for the hospital and continues to be a wonderful friend by helping to raise vital awareness about Temple Street’s life-saving work.

Every minute of every day, sick children and their worried families come through the doors of Temple Street in need of world-class medical care. With the kindness and generosity of supporters all across the country, Temple Street Foundation raises the vital funds needed to ensure that these children continue to have access to the very best paediatric equipment, facilities and supports when they need it most.

Commenting on her new role, Katie says, “Temple Street is a truly amazing place full of incredible little fighters and wonderful, caring staff who do such exceptional work. While it’s heart-breaking to see what some of the kids are having to go through their courage and bravery is truly inspirational to me. I’m delighted to help out in any small way I can by raising awareness for the great work that’s being done at Temple Street and continuing to support Temple Street Foundation.”

Denise Fitzgerald, Chief Executive, Temple Street Foundation says, “We are so excited and honoured to welcome Katie on board as an official ambassador for Temple Street. She has been – and continues to be – such a wonderful friend to the hospital and is a great advocate for the extraordinary work that happens in our wards, theatres, departments and Intensive Care Unit every hour of every day. Today’s visit was an extraordinary treat for our little patients, not to mention our doctors, nurses and staff, who are all huge Katie Taylor fans!”

She adds, “We are so grateful that she has pledged to support Temple Street in this way. Thank you Katie for joining the Temple Street family and becoming a vital part of the extraordinary circle of care that surrounds each sick child and their family.”
